Reading’s Talking News Privacy Policy (volunteers)
This policy is written in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations 2018. Under the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation, due to come into force on 25th May 2018, the Reading’s Talking News (‘Controller’ for the purposes of the GDPR) must let all our volunteers know:
- what our lawful basis is for using their data
- what personal data we hold and how we use it
- what is the source of this data
- how long we keep it and when we would erase it
- that a person is entitled to see the personal data we have for them.
Under the General Data Protection Regulation 2018 the Reading’s Talking news must let you know how we use and protect your personal data. The legal basis for this is called ‘Legitimate Interest’ and it allows us to use your data in a way that you would reasonably expect us to, but which does not override your interests in any way.
We respect your privacy and remain committed to responsible communications. Your details are the only personal data we have for you. It is stored in a secure database. We will never pass them on or sell them. However, under the General Data Protection Regulations there is a legal duty to pass information to third party organisations such as the police, the Department of Work and Pensions and anti-fraud agencies for the purpose of preventing and detecting crime

Personal Information is information that can be used to identify you. It can include your name, address and telephone number.
Personal information when you join us
Contact detailsThese are provided by the volunteer concerned. The Administrator (‘Processor’ for the purposes of the GDPR) will keep a list of every volunteer’s phone number(s), emergency contact number, email address (if available) and home address.
Use of dataPhone numbers and e-mail addresses will be freely circulated amongst all volunteers. Emergency numbers (for use if a volunteer becomes ill while in the studio) will be kept next to the First Aid Kit in the studio. Home addresses will only be available to the Administrator.
The Administrator will use this data only to organise the volunteer tasks such as preparing rotas and committee meetings.
Reading’s Talking News is responsible for collecting your personal information. Your personal information is not shared with third parties or used in any other way as required by the General Data Protection Regulation, but under this regulation we do have to exchange information with other lawful organisations for preventing fraud and detecting crime.
note:Unfortunately, no data over the internet is 100 per cent secure. As a result, whilst we try to protect your personal data, Reading’s Talking News cannot guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk.
When we collect your personal information we use strict procedures and security features to prevent unauthorised access.

Reading’s Talking News does not use ‘cookies’ on their website.

Accessing and updating your personal information held by Reading’s Talking News
You can ask us what information we hold about you by contacting us and we will reply within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if at any time you think there is a problem with the way your data is being handled by us.
