Reading’s Talking News Privacy Policy (listeners)

This policy is written in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations 2018. Under the General Data Protection Regulation 2018 the Reading’s Talking news must let you know how we use and protect your personal data. The legal basis for this is called ‘Legitimate Interest’ and it allows us to use your data in a way that you would reasonably expect us to, but which does not override your interests in any way.

We respect your privacy and remain committed to responsible communications. Your details are the only personal data we have for you. It is stored in a secure database and the address labels are also stored in a secure location when not in use. Having left our premises, the address labels are then under the care and protection of Royal Mail and we will never pass them on or sell them. However, under the General Data Protection Regulations there is a legal duty to pass information to third party organisations such as the police, the Department of Work and Pensions and anti-fraud agencies for the purpose of preventing and detecting crime.

Personal Information

Personal Information is information that can be used to identify you. It can include your name, address and telephone numbers.

We collect personal information when you register with us (for example filling in the contact form), or when someone contacts us on your behalf. The information given is used for that specific purpose. It is also used for administrative purpose, and if we need to contact you about your equipment.

How do we use your information?

We use your information to send you RTN’s weekly news or to supply you with a player which you have asked for. We can also use your personal information for administrative purposes to let you know about changes in our service.

Reading’s Talking News is responsible for collecting your personal information. Your personal information is not shared with third parties or used in any other way (other those described in this policy or as required by law) unless you agree. (In some cases we will have received your personal information from third parties at your request (e.g. referral for our news & equipment). This information is not shared with other organisations. We reserve the right to share your personal information if we are legally obliged to and to enable us to apply to our terms and conditions and other agreements. This includes exchanging information with other organisations for preventing fraud and detecting crime.

Unfortunately, no data over the internet is 100 per cent secure. As a result, whilst we try to protect your personal data, Reading’s Talking News cannot guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk. When we collect your personal information we use strict procedures and security features to prevent unauthorised access.

Accessing and updating your personal information held by Reading’s Talking News

You can ask us what information we hold about you by contacting us and we will reply within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if at any time you think there is a problem with the way your data is being handled by us.
